Kidz Danz Kompany (KDK) is San Diego’s premier childrens dance company. It is a youth and performance-based program that explores all dance genres with a strong theatre background. KDK is unique by producing professional-level dance concerts and preparing young dancers for a life in the performing arts by providing professional-level training and coaching. This distinguished, critically acclaimed children’s dance company was founded in 1994 by Spencer John Powell in Utah and now is hosted by Mounarath Powell Dance.
We strive to cultivate a strong sense of community among our students, staff, and patrons by producing high quality dance concerts. KDK holds its dancers to a very high standard and are continuously overjoyed to see them rise above our expectations and shine. All KDK training is geared to the artistic development of each student to prepare them for the professional concert stage! KDK dancers will learn choreography and composition. They will have the opportunity to choreograph for the dance concerts. KDK will only accept dancers who are passionate and committed to the art of dance and dance theatre! High academic standing is required of each KDK dancer! If a parent tells us that school is suffering, the dancer will be required to sit out of performances until their grades are up. The dancer must then attend fewer weekly classes until their grades are back up.
Mounarath Powell Dance (MPD) is the host for Kidz Danz Kompany. This gives each KDK dancer exposure to the professional world of dance. KDK dancers also work very closely with the Professional Dancers of MPD. Highly top Professional Choreographers and Master Teachers set dance concert works and hold master classes throughout the season.
